“An Opinion on Gun Control”: And A Very Strong One At That

This past December Larry Correia, who considers himself a professional novelist released an article based around his beliefs on gun control. He states very early on in the piece that he needs to prove to the reader that he knows what he is talking about. He then goes on to give background information on who he is and various jobs he has obtained for nearly  a whole page. Now somebody, after reading this would think that Correia is a very reliable source based on the fact that he has done tons of “research” on the topic and is a “Utah Concealed Weapons intructor”, but a smart reader would think otherwise.

Reading his article, you don’t have to be a genius to know that he is completely bias on  this topic. He is 100% pro gun, and believes that guns are the greatest things since sliced bread. From allowing teachers to carry guns to blaming practically every shooting on GUN FREE ZONES, there is no question on Correia’s argument at hand. But are all of these arguments reliable? Just because he is a “professional novelist” doesn’t make his claims accurate. He throws statistic after statistic at the reader without any real citation of where he got the information. For all we know, he could just be making up all of this information because there is absolutely zero proof to make it seem trust worthy. This is why the article may seem flawed in one’s eyes. Another way that his argument, when analyzed, may seem not up to par, is that he gets extremely petty and defensive when discussing counterarguments. He stated that whenever someone from his side responds to a situation everyone jumps on them calling them “blood thirsty monsters” and becomes increasingly defensive. Correia did not seem extremely professional throughout his blog, and expecially here.

My personal opinion on the topic is, that I don’t exactly have one. I fully admit that I am not very knowledgable on the gun control topic along with its rules and regulations, therefore I feel I should not make a public opinion with fear of insulting someone. I do however know, that what has been happening in out country and all over  the world lately involving the abuse of guns is an awful thing and something needs to be done to stop it. What that might be, I am not sure but it needs to be done as soon as possible.
